Police in Dagoretti Sub-County have arrested seven individuals linked to phone theft and other criminal activities along Naivasha Road, one of Nairobi’s busiest corridors.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday by officers from Kabete Police Station, followed intelligence reports pointing to a surge in phone snatching and related offences in the area.
“Acting on intelligence, police officers from Kabete Police Station in Dagoretti Sub-County mounted an operation along Naivasha Road, leading to the arrest of seven suspects involved in various offences,” the National Police Service (NPS) stated.
During the crackdown, officers intercepted two suspects on a motorcycle, a common tactic among criminals targeting pedestrians and motorists in Nairobi. Three additional suspects were arrested for handling stolen property, believed to be part of a larger network involved in phone theft and resale operations.
Authorities also apprehended a sixth individual for possession of bhang, highlighting the link between petty crime and drug abuse, while a seventh suspect was arrested for riding a motorcycle without valid insurance. The motorcycle and other recovered items have been secured at Kabete Police Station as evidence.
“The suspects were placed in custody pending processing and arraignment in court,” NPS added.
The Service commended the Kabete officers for their swift and dedicated response to intelligence reports from the community. “National Police Service commends the officers for their vigilance and quick response, reaffirming its commitment to dismantling criminal networks,” the statement read.
The NPS also urged the public to stay alert and support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity either directly at police stations or through hotlines and WhatsApp numbers. “The Service further appeals to members of the public to remain vigilant and to support law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, or anonymously through the hotlines 999, 911, 112, #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp 0709 570 000,” the Service said.
Authorities said similar operations will continue in other crime hotspots around Nairobi to reduce criminal activity and strengthen community trust in law enforcement.
