Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has confirmed that all three bodies of victims who went missing after a boat capsized at Tudor Water Sports during the Ocean Festival have been recovered.

Governor Nassir, speaking to the media on Monday,  said the bodies were found at different locations around the site of the accident site.

“The team was able to recover the body of Caleb Otieno, who was 21 years old, at 0109 on the 13th of October. That is basically today morning. We're able to recover Stephen Karembo, who was 23 years old, and thereafter, at 0113, we were able to get Thomas Wanyonyi, who was 24 years old.” Nassir said.

“The bodies were recovered at different places. One was very near the incident of the accident. Two of the bodies were recovered farther away. One of them had already been drifted by the currents all the way till near the Nyali Bridge .”

He added that all the bodies have been positively identified and taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.

The governor assured families of the victims that both the national and county governments will assist with burial expenses. He also noted that the Kenya Red Cross, 911 emergency response team, and county officials will provide psychological support to the survivors and affected families.

“This has been a deeply emotional incident, and we understand the pain the families are going through. Security officers will continue monitoring the site to ensure safety and calm as the recovery process concludes,” Nassir stated.

The tragic accident occurred during the East Africa Ocean Festival on October 10, 2025, leaving the coastal community in mourning as authorities review safety measures for future water activities.
