A Nairobi driver has been fined Sh100,000 after a viral video captured him dangerously overtaking several vehicles along Oloitoktok Road.

The suspect, identified as George Oduor, pleaded guilty before the Milimani Law Courts after CCTV footage corroborated the viral clip initially shared by journalist Larry Madowo.

In a statement issued by the ODPP on Monday, October 13, 2025, Oduor was charged with dangerous overtaking contrary to Rule 73(4) as read with Rule 99 of the Traffic Rules under CAP 403, Laws of Kenya.

Prosecuting Counsel Ismael Keragu told the court that the accused had dangerously overtaken a stream of vehicles along Oloitoktok Road within Nairobi County on the 9th of October 2025, at around 2:40 pm.

"Following the circulation of the video, originally shared on social media by journalist Larry Madowo, police officers from Kilimani Police Station launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident," the court filing read in part.

Detectives later visited the scene and retrieved CCTV footage from a nearby building, which confirmed the events seen in the viral clip.

The vehicle was traced to its registered owner, who revealed that his personal driver was behind the wheel at the time. Oduor was subsequently summoned and arrested.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Rose Ndobi, the driver pleaded guilty to the charges. Upon conviction, the magistrate sentenced him to pay a fine of Sh100,000 or, in default, serve five months in prison.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) emphasized that the case demonstrates the government’s resolve to curb reckless driving.
