Ousted Speaker Enock Okero, who was impeached four months ago, designated four locations as Bunge Mashinani and declared them alternative venues for assembly sittings, citing restricted access to the main chamber.

The Senate Devolution Committee was left in disbelief after it emerged that Nyamira County is currently running two rival county assemblies, each convening sessions in different chambers.

The committee was informed that the two groups have been separately corresponding with the Office of the Controller of Budget, each requesting authorization to access public funds.

Ousted Speaker Enock Okero, who was impeached four months ago, designated four locations as Bunge Mashinani and declared them alternative venues for assembly sittings, citing restricted access to the main chamber.

The ousted Speaker had challenged his impeachment in court, and the matter is active in court.

A rival group has been conducting separate assembly sittings under the leadership of Deputy Speaker and self-declared Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro.

Tensions reached a boiling point at one point during the session, nearly erupting into a physical confrontation as Senators from neighboring counties—Okong’o Omogeni of Nyamira and Kisii’s Richard Onyonka—clashed in a heated argument.

During the same session, Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o informed the committee that her office has been receiving correspondence from both factions of the Nyamira assembly, leaving them uncertain about which set of documents to act upon.

The two factions returned to Nyamira without reaching any resolution, each firmly insisting on holding their sessions in their respective chambers during Wednesday sittings.
