Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans, especially political leaders, to promote unity instead of fostering division.
He urged for caution in public discussions to ensure the preservation of peace and stability.
While addressing an interdenominational thanksgiving service in Kilgoris on Sunday, Kindiki reminded leaders that although Kenya values freedom of expression, it is crucial that this freedom is exercised responsibly.
He added, "We ask for your support. Even when we have differing views, we must not use them to jeopardize national security."
"There are orderly, respectful ways to express disagreement—ways that can influence policy without shaking the foundation of our nation," he said.
Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ng’eno echoed his sentiments, warning those who are inflaming political tensions.
"Some people are trying to destabilise our peace. But let me be clear—this is our country. We will protect it by all means," Ng’eno said, warning that women and children are often the first to suffer when chaos erupts.
Kindiki’s comments come amid rising political tensions in the country, especially within the political class. He cautioned that provocative language could threaten the stability of a nation that many have worked tirelessly to maintain in peace.
"No one, however diverse their opinion, has the right to create disunity. We want a Kenya where citizens can go about their daily business without fear," he stressed
