The Sharjah Police reported that a criminal laboratory team has been deployed to determine what sparked the blaze.

Three Kenyan nationals are among five people who died after a fire swept through a high-rise residential building in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday, according to authorities from both countries.

Kenya's Principal Secretary for the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, expressed condolences to the families affected by the incident.

"I regret to inform you that 3 Kenyans are among 5 casualties that died following a deadly fire that occurred in Sharjah, UAE on Sunday," she stated on Tuesday.

"My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased diaspora. We stand with you to offer support during this difficult time."

Details surrounding the fire remain under investigation.

The Sharjah Police reported that a criminal laboratory team has been deployed to determine what sparked the blaze.

They noted that the fire began on the upper floors of the building, specifically from the 42nd floor, which has since been sealed off for examination.

The fire engulfed a 52-storey tower and led to injuries among 19 residents.

UAE emergency teams acted swiftly, managing to evacuate 148 individuals to safety as flames spread through the structure.

Local media outlet Gulf News reported that all five of those who died were of African origin, including the three Kenyans.

The victims reportedly lost their lives while trying to escape the fire.

While investigations are ongoing, specialised teams continue their inspection of the building to assess the damage and uncover the cause.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased, but officials have promised ongoing support to their families and the broader diaspora community.
