The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the rescheduling of all promotional interviews that had been planned for Friday, October 17, 2025.
This follows the government’s declaration of the day as a public holiday to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a notice addressed to all teachers, TSC said the affected interviews will now be conducted over three working days, from Tuesday, October 21, to Thursday, October 23, 2025.
“Following the Government's declaration of Friday, 17th October, 2025 as a Public Holiday in honour of the late Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, the Teachers Service Commission has suspended all promotional interviews previously scheduled for that day,” said TSC Acting CEO Eveleen Mitei.
She added that Regional Directors will communicate the revised schedules and logistical details to affected candidates in due course.
Mitei further expressed appreciation for teachers’ professionalism and understanding, noting that the adjustment was necessary to allow the nation to observe the public holiday in honour of the late Odinga.
“This moment offers us all an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of a national icon whose contributions to democracy and education remain indelible,” she stated.
The government declared the public holiday on Wednesday as part of the national mourning period for Raila Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday and is set to be accorded a State Funeral.
In a special gazette notice No. 15007 published on Thursday, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, announced the declaration under Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110).
“It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Friday, the 17th October, 2025, shall be a public holiday in honour of the departed former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga,” the notice read.
A state funeral will be held at Nyayo Stadium on Friday.
The announcement comes as the country continues to mourn the veteran opposition leader and long-serving statesman, whose death has drawn tributes from across the political divide and beyond Kenya’s borders.
