A pastor from Nyamira County has been arrested following allegations that he defiled a 14-year-old girl inside a church located in Ikonge.

Reports from a local administrator indicate that the incident took place on the evening of April 20.

A concerned resident is said to have raised the alarm after spotting the 42-year-old pastor entering the church with the minor and locking the door behind them.

When police officers arrived at the scene in Nyamira North Sub-county, they found the church locked from within and the lights switched off. Multiple attempts to reach the pastor by phone were unsuccessful, as his phone was off.

Authorities then contacted his wife to assist in gaining access to the premises.

According to reports, when the pastor’s wife arrived at the church and noticed a set of keys visible through a window, she appeared visibly shaken.

A bystander managed to retrieve the keys using a stick by dragging a nearby table closer.

The pastor eventually came out, pleaded for forgiveness, and unlocked the doors.

Upon gaining entry, officers found a pair of shoes believed to belong to a young girl.

A further search led them to a makeshift kitchen in one corner of the church, where they made a disturbing discovery: a teenage girl hidden inside a 310-litre drum.

The girl, a Grade 8 pupil, was reportedly under the church’s care. Witnesses noted that she looked distressed, and her appearance raised suspicions of possible abuse.

The matter was immediately brought to the attention of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at the Ikonge Police Patrol Base.

Officers responded swiftly, escorting both the pastor and the minor to the station for further inquiry.

The case was officially logged under OB number 04/20/04/2025 at Ikonge Police Patrol. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face legal charges.

The local community has strongly condemned the incident and is urging authorities to ensure justice is served without delay.
