President Ruto dismisses critics, says church projects will continue

President William Ruto has vowed to continue supporting the construction of churches across the country, despite opposition from critics.
While addressing the congregation at AIC, Jericho in Makadara, Nairobi, he stated that just as his administration is focused on affordable housing and education, he will not abandon places of worship.
"Because this is the will of God," Ruto said, reaffirming his stance. "Tutamuaibisha shetani. Shetani hawezi kutuzuia kujenga nchi yetu ama kujenga makanisa zetu (Translation: We will shame the devil. The devil cannot stop us from building our country and our churches)," he added.
He pointed out that construction is a part of him, even mentioning that ongoing projects were taking place at State House. He reassured the congregation of his support in finishing the church, emphasizing that his faith drives his involvement in such initiatives.
"I am going to be a member of the construction committee of this church. I see there is still some work left. I am a member of AIC, and I know everything," he said.
"Shetani na watu wake wanaweza kukasirika wakitaka lakini tutajenga kanisa (Translation: The Devil and his people can get mad if they want but we shall build churches)," Ruto added
His remarks follow the controversy surrounding his Sh20 million pledge to Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, which drew mixed reactions.
Some questioned the source of the funds, while a group of youth attempted to occupy the church in protest, demanding a refund. Security officers prevented the disruption.
Addressing the concerns, the church clarified that Ruto had been a devoted worshipper and that the donation was made upon request by Reverend Edward Mwai.
"On the issue of His Excellency the President of Kenya, Hon. William Ruto’s donation to the church, we wish to clarify to the whole nation that he has been our faithful worshipper since 2009," stated Secretary-General Raphael Mwiti.
President Ruto pledged his support of Sh20 million upon request from our church's general overseer, Rev. Edward Mwai," he added
He also pledged to rally his friends to raise an additional Sh100 million for the church’s construction, which is expected to exceed Sh1 billion.
