Ruto: I did not overpromise, I will deliver

Ruto defended his administration’s performance, saying key economic reforms are already producing results.
President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfil every pledge he made to Kenyans, pushing back against claims that his campaign promises were overly ambitious or unrealistic.
Speaking on Sunday, July 20, during the consecration of Bishop Benjamin Kalanzo at the AIC Bomani Masaku Service Grounds in Machakos, Ruto said his administration is focused on raising national aspirations, not lowering expectations.
“It’s not about over-promising it’s about expanding our ambitions as a country,” he said. “Kenyans have been conditioned to aim low for too long. My goal is to push for excellence.”
Ruto revealed that a senior clergyman had once suggested he retreat from some of his campaign promises, hinting they may have been made in the spirit of political expediency. However, he made it clear he had no intention of backing down.
“He told me maybe I should revise some promises made during the campaign. But I told him clearly, I meant every word I said. I will keep my word,” Ruto stated firmly.
Addressing critics who doubt his ability to deliver, the President said: “Those claiming I won’t deliver I intend to prove them wrong.”
On the state of the economy, Ruto defended his administration’s performance, saying key economic reforms are already producing results.
“What I said about economic recovery is happening. The numbers speak for themselves. Our economy is moving in the right direction, even if many remain unconvinced,” he said.
The ceremony, presided over by AIC Presiding Bishop Abraham Mulwa, saw Bishop Kalanzo officially installed as the new head of the AIC Machakos Area, succeeding retired Bishop Philip Muia. Amos Ndunda was also appointed Assistant Bishop.
Among those present were Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Labour and Social Protection CS Alfred Mutua, and Members of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West) and Vincent Musyoka (Mwala).
