Justice Chacha Mwita granted the interim order as part of an ongoing case contesting the decision to withdraw Muturi’s security.

The High Court on Friday, April 11, issued a temporary directive instructing Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to restore the security detail of former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi without delay.

Justice Chacha Mwita granted the interim order as part of an ongoing case contesting the decision to withdraw Muturi’s security.

"Until the petition and its accompanying application are fully heard and resolved, a conservatory order is hereby granted, compelling the Inspector General of Police to reinstate and maintain the security arrangements of Hon. Justin Muturi. The protection must remain intact and not be disrupted in any way until June 24, 2025," part of the court directive stated.

On Tuesday, April 8, Justin Muturi disclosed that his security team had been pulled back, raising concerns that his life could be at risk.

He expressed suspicion over the move, suggesting that the withdrawal may have been triggered by his outspoken criticism of the government.

The fallout between Muturi and President William Ruto intensified following his claims that the government was complicit in a series of abductions reported last year.

Muturi alleged that he was personally affected, pointing to an incident where his son was reportedly taken by National Intelligence Service (NIS) operatives during the peak of the Gen Z-led demonstrations in June and July.

In response to the withdrawal of his security, the former Attorney General voiced strong opposition, maintaining that proper security was not only a constitutional entitlement but also part of his retirement benefits.

He characterized the move as a tactic meant to intimidate him.
