Jaoko Oburu Odinga has landed a new role as Special Advisor on Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods in the Executive Office of the President.

His appointment, announced on April 22, marks a key addition to President William Ruto’s advisory team, with a focus on advancing national economic inclusion.

"I wish to take this opportunity to give special thanks to H.E. President William Samoei Ruto for granting me an opportunity to serve Kenyans by appointing me to serve in the capacity of Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods. Thank you, Your Excellency," he said.

He also gave recognition to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, praising him for encouraging an environment where Kenyans from different backgrounds can collaborate.

"I also commend Raila Odinga for showing his faith in me and for creating a conducive environment for Kenyans from all walks of life to work together," he added.

He is expected to help design, evaluate, and improve programs focused on job creation and poverty reduction, particularly for marginalized and underserved communities.

Jaoko’s role also involves coordinating national projects that aim to empower young people, women, and those in the informal sector.

He will promote access to government funds and loans, champion green jobs, and support community businesses.

In carrying out his responsibilities, Jaoko will work with various ministries and government departments, including the Treasury, Trade, and Labour.

He is also expected to build strong partnerships with county governments, donors, and civil society organizations to ensure that economic empowerment projects are well-implemented and impactful.

The projects are expected to focus on giving more Kenyans access to economic tools and helping them improve their livelihoods.

The appointment places Jaoko at the centre of Kenya’s efforts to reduce economic inequality through targeted and inclusive development strategies.

With his background and new responsibilities, he is positioned to influence policy decisions and bring new energy to the country’s economic transformation plans.
