Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made swift changes to the leadership of his newly formed Democracy of Citizens Party (DCP), just days after its official debut.

The leadership shake-up was made public through a gazette notice issued on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Part of the notice read: "In accordance with the powers granted under section 20 (1) (c) and (e) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, the Registrar of Political Parties hereby announces that the Democracy for the Citizens Party plans to revise its list of party officials and relocate its headquarters."

Among those affected by the changes is Thomas Ratemo, the former National Chairperson, who has been replaced by David Mingati Parseina.

Mably Owino, who previously served as Secretary General, has been succeeded by Hezron Obaga.

Hussein Athman, who held the role of Deputy Secretary General in charge of Operations, has been succeeded by Martin Ole Kamwalo.

The party's National Treasurer, Laura Njeri, has been replaced by Annah Kavuu Mutua, while Abdifatah Abdullahi, who served as Deputy Treasurer for Operations, has been replaced by Everngeline Wanjira Njoka.

Joy Gatugi, formerly the National Organizing Secretary, has been replaced by former Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Franklin Mithika Linturi.

Meanwhile, the position of Deputy Organizing Secretary for Operations, previously held by Jeremiah Mong’eri, is now occupied by Abubakar Abdi Ogle.

Additional leadership changes in the party saw Catherine Wanjiku Waruguru take over as National Women’s Caucus Chairperson from Miriam Fredina Mariki, while Serah Wanjiku Thiga replaced Joel Sang as National Youth Caucus Chairperson.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua officially launched his new political party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), on May 15, 2025.

Featuring a listening ear as its emblem, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) is positioning itself as a grassroots movement committed to raising the voices of everyday Kenyans.

Gachagua explained that the party’s slogan, "Skiza Wakenya"  meaning "Listen to Kenyans" reflects its core mission to prioritize the needs and concerns of the people in governance.

"As a party, we firmly believe that every Kenyan deserves to be truly heard by their leaders. This listening cannot be superficial or tokenistic," Gachagua said.

“It must be intentional, carefully planned, purposeful, and ongoing. At no point during our leadership will any Kenyan be overlooked or ignored," he added.
