Ruto said the initiative is meant to restore dignity, improve welfare, and promote home ownership among the country’s service men and women.

President William Ruto has announced that 20 per cent of all homes under the Affordable Housing Programme will be set aside for Kenya’s disciplined forces, including KDF, police, NYS, and prisons officers, in a move aimed at giving back to those who put their lives on the line for the country.

Speaking during the official opening of the Central Bank of Kenya Police Housing Complex in Nairobi’s Industrial Area on Tuesday, Ruto said the initiative is meant to restore dignity, improve welfare, and promote home ownership among the country’s service men and women.

"We will reserve 20% of our housing units under the Affordable Housing Programme for members of the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, the National Youth Service and the Kenya Prisons Service," he said.

The President explained that the targeted officers will also enjoy subsidised loans with interest rates as low as three per cent to help them own homes without financial strain.

"These disciplined officers will benefit from single-digit interest rate credit facilities, as low as three per cent a year, to grow the number of home-owners," he added.

He said this is part of a wider plan to support officers, especially those working in cities where housing is expensive and limited.

The newly launched housing complex includes 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom fully furnished units for police officers attached to the Central Bank.

Ruto said the facility goes beyond bricks and mortar—it reflects the value Kenyans place on those in uniform.

"This facility is not just about housing; it’s a statement that our men and women in uniform deserve decent, safe, and dignified living spaces," he said.

Ruto promised that similar housing projects will be set up across the country to make sure more officers benefit.

He said the government will keep disciplined forces at the centre of its housing agenda, as a way of recognising their role in keeping the country safe.
