Kenya's Shujaa beat Ireland 17-7 to begin Singapore 7s on a high

Kenya Sevens Rugby team, Shujaa, saw off the challenge of Ireland 17-7 early Saturday morning in group B action to kick off their Singapore Sevens leg with a much needed win.
Kenya has great memories of Singapore, having won the country's only Sevens series leg with at the National Stadium in Kalang in 2016 with victory over Fiji and they would make a good start in 2025.
Nigel Amaitsa opened the scoring two minutes into the match after slicing through the Irish defence.
He scored the conversation to make it 7-0.
Kevin Wekesa then added a second try six minutes into the first half for a 12-0 lead at the break.
The second half began with Kenya a man down, thanks to Wekesa being sent to the sin bin for a high tackle.
The Irish in response, upped their efforts to try get back in the game but the Kenyan boys were resolute defensively and added a third try through Patrick Odongo who scored from close range to make it 17-0.
Ireland pulled one back late on through Kevin Costello, but the damage was already done as the match ended 17-7 in Kenya's favour.
The Kenyans next take on France at 11 am local time.
Following Singapore, the final leg of the series will take place in Los Angeles, where the list of attendees for the upcoming season will be known.
