The former Chelsea FC and Napoli midfielder has been rumoured to be on his way out of the North London club this Summer as he enters into the twilight of his career.
Flamengo are getting ready to compete against the best clubs in the world at the Club World Cup in the USA in June, and they are one of the teams hoping to reinforce their squad with that in mind.
According to Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande, Jorginho will be the first signing to arrive.
According to another report from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jorginho has already verbally accepted the offer from "Mengao" and will sign the pre-contract in the next few days.
The plan is for him to stay with the club for the next three years, the report stated.
"Jorginho set to join Flamengo on free transfer, here we go. Plan confirmed since January and deal set to be sealed for the midfielder who’s leaving Arsenal in June," said Romano on his X page.
"Three-year deal until 2028 at Flamengo verbally agreed."
The Italian's contract expires on June 30th, but it is expected that Arsenal will release him before then to sign his contract with Flamengo.
Should he do so, he will be reunited at the Club World Cup with Chelsea, his former team.
The midfielder has had a fairly secondary role this season, a regular trend since he arrived at the Emirates Stadium in the winter of 2022-23 after leaving Chelsea.
Jorginho holds both Italian and Brazilian citizenship, he was eligible to play for both the Italian and Brazilian national teams. In 2012, he was called up for the first time for Italy U21, however; he did not play.
