Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga is leaving Qatari side Al Duhail at the end of this season, four years after joining the club.

Olunga and Al Duhail announced in separate statements on Thursday evening that they would be parting ways at the end of this just-ended season.

"Al Duhail thanks its striker and all-time top scorer, Michael Olunga. The management of Al Duhail Sports Club extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Kenyan striker Michael Olunga, the club's all-time top scorer, for his distinguished contributions and exceptional performances during his career with the first team," Al Duhail made the announcement in a statement.

Olunga joined the Qatari Club back in 2021 following a stint at Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol.

Prior to that, he spent a season on loan at Spanish La Liga side Girona, where he famously scored a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Las Palmas in a league clash to become the first and only Kenyan to achieve such a feat in one of Europe's top-tier Leagues.

He also played for Chinese side Guijhou Zhicheng and Swedish top-flight side Djurgaden CF earlier in his career.

After joining Al Duhail, Olunga went on to dominate the Qatari scoring charts and leaves with the accolade of top scorer with 150 goals. No mean feat for the Kenyan international.

Olunga was an example of professionalism and discipline on and off the field and contributed significantly to the club's numerous achievements and championships.

He also left a clear mark on the club's history through his decisive goals and contributions.

On his part, Olunga, who did not immediately state which direction his career looks like taking, shared his gratitude for the years spent at a club that has fully trusted his talents.

"Veni Vidi Vici," he wrote on his X account.

"Thank you for everything Al Duhail SC. Leaving as the all-time top scorer. 130 goals and memories. Thank you for the trust, he shared following the news.

Olunga's next destination is not yet clear, even though a move to a different Qatari club has not been ruled out.

Efforts by Radio Generation to reach him immediately did not bear fruit.

He has scored 30 times for the national team Harambee Stars.
