Investigations have been launched into the cause of a fire that burned down a section of the Sigona Golf Club on Friday evening, says the club's management.
The fire incident at the exclusive golf club occurred at around 11:30 pm Friday, March 22, where part of the clubhouse was damaged.
The golf club's management now says the clubhouse will be unavailable for public use until further notice.
"We regret to inform you of a fire incident that occurred at our clubhouse yesterday evening," a statement by Sigona chairman Muraya Kariuki seen by Generation Sport read.
"The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and remains unknown, he added. We are thankful to note that no members of staff or guests who were there at the time were injured."
Muraya also said the fire was quickly contained by the club’s fire marshals and Kiambu County emergency teams.
The golf operations of the club will however continue while the clubhouse remains closed.
Sigona Golf Club was founded in 1938 and due to its location in the Limuru Highlands, it's one of the country's most exclusive locations.
It hosts the yearly Kenya Amateur Golf Championship series.
Earlier this year in January, the Limuru Country Club was also extensively damaged in a fire incident, making Sigona the second in the vicinity to suffer a similar fate.
