The opening match will take place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while Uganda’s Mandela Stadium in Kampala will host the third-place playoff.

Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium will host the final of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed.

The final will be played on Saturday, August 30, 2025, marking a major milestone in Kenya’s football journey and a return of the tournament to East Africa for the first time since Rwanda hosted it in 2016.

The announcement follows joint consultations with co-hosts Tanzania and Uganda. The tournament will run from August 2 to 30, 2025, and is reserved for players featuring in their domestic leagues.

The opening match will take place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while Uganda’s Mandela Stadium in Kampala will host the third-place playoff. Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium has also been included among the official venues, boosting its growing profile in African football after hosting the CAF Confederation Cup final in May.

CAF praised the joint hosting effort, saying it represents a strong step toward regional integration and better football infrastructure across East Africa.

“The decision to spread the tournament across four East African locations, including Zanzibar, reflects our commitment to inclusivity and the growth of the game across all corners of the continent,” CAF said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Group stage matches will be played across the four host cities.

Group A will be in Nairobi and feature Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. Group B will compete in Dar es Salaam with Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.

Kampala will host Group C, which includes Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. Group D will be staged in Zanzibar, with matches involving Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria. Congo replaced Equatorial Guinea following a decision by the CAF Appeals Board.

CAF said more details on match schedules, ticketing, and fan activities will be released soon. The news has generated excitement across East Africa, with fans and football leaders welcoming the opportunity to highlight regional unity and football excellence.
