In Summary

The two sides will meet on Saturday at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar Es Salaam as Tanzania seek to retain their title, with Kenya eyeing their crown on their rivals perch.

Kenya's Harambee Starlets national women's football team will take on their Tanzanian counterparts in what can be considered to be the final of the 2025 Council for East and Central Africa (CECAFA) championships on Saturday in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

The two sides will meet on Saturday at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar Es Salaam as Tanzania seek to retain their title, with Kenya eyeing their crown on their rivals perch.

The week-long tournament, played in a round robin format, was graced by five sides, namely hosts Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and South Sudan.

At the moment, Tanzania leads the standings with nine points from three matches played, the same as Kenya, but possesses a superior goal difference.

They beat Burundi 6-0 in their opener, South Sudan 4-0 and Uganda 2-0 on Thursday to take their goal difference to +12.

Kenya on the other hand, beat Uganda 4-0, Burundi 3-0 on Saturday and South Sudan 4-0 on Thursday for a +11 goal difference, meaning they will have to collect a win on Saturday to guarantee themselves the crown of regional champions.

Starlets, who are eyeing a second regional title, face their toughest challenge so far on Saturday against the determined hosts who will be gassed to make a serious mark come kick off, especially with a sizeable home crown expected at the venue.

On Thursday against South Sudan, Kenya bulldozed their rivals with a dominant display as Faith Mboya stabbed home a cool finish in the third minute to get the scoresheet ticking.

Violet Nanjala fired home the second in the 48th minute before red-hot Martha Amunyolet made it three from a corner kick in the 65th minute with Elizabeth Ochaka putting the icing on the cake with a last-gasp goal, sealing Starlets’ dominant performance.

Tanzania remains the most successful team in CECAFA Women’s Championship history, with two titles, compared to Kenya's one, making Saturdays final an interesting battle.

Kick off will be at 6 PM Kenyan time.
