CHAN: Harambee Stars vice captain confident of successful showing

Kenya is in Group ‘A’ with two-time champions DR Congo, North African giants Morocco, as well as Angola and Zambia, two of Africa’s most consistent CHAN competitors, in what many believe to be the group of death
Harambee Stars Vice Captain Boniface Muchiri is adamant that the national team will exceed expectations at the upcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN) which is being held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Kenya is in Group ‘A’ with two-time champions DR Congo, North African giants Morocco, as well as Angola and Zambia, two of Africa’s most consistent CHAN competitors, in what many believe to be the group of death.
Considering the credentials their opponents possess, its no secret that Kenya will most likely begin the tournament as underdogs to qualify from group A, but according to Muchiri, that simply is not the case.
Kenya kicks off its campaign Sunday 3 August versus DR Congo at Kasarani Stadium and Muchiri is confident that the boys will perform well.
"Nowadays there is no underdog when it comes to football. We just have to completely believe in ourselves and our ability. We are demanding a lot from ourselves because we are playing for the country, so we have to give the best performance that we can, so we can write history and leave a legacy behind,” he said during open training at Kasarani.
Harambee Stars have settled for preparations at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where they are preparing for their opening match against DR Congo on August 3.
“We have had good training sessions sessions: The training is well-prepared with good intensity. The mood is good, and we are doing well with the training sessions, taking note of the coach’s instructions,” he added.
Kenya travels this weekend to Tanzania, where they will take part in a CECAFA Four Nations tournament as part of their preparations.
