Harambee Stars defender Omija completes move from Gor Mahia to Tunisian giants

On Wednesday, Omija was unveiled as a new ESS player, a step up for the Harambee Stars defender, who will be looking to make an impression in the highly competitive Tunisian top flight division.
Harambee Stars defender Alphonse Omija has completed a move to Tunisian side Etoile Sportive Du Sahel from Kenyan Premier League outfit Gor Mahia.
The defender, has been linked with a move out of the KPL for a while now, following a highly successful stint with Gor. Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy spilled the beans on Tuesday, praising the defender on his move in the aftermath of the Stars' 5-0 success over Seychelles in a 2026 World Cup Qualifier.

Sahel finished third last season, five points behind winners Esperance Tunis. Their 2025/26 season is already underway. They currently stand 11th on the log, with four points from four matches played.
Omija has signed a three year deal, making him the first ever Kenyan to feature in the Tunisian top flight. He featured for the Stars at the just ended African Nations Championships CHAN tournament that ended last month.
The defender, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, scored for Kenya during the quarter final loss to Madagascar at CHAN and is highly rated by head coach McCarthy.
Gor Mahia were yet to officially comment on the exit but have already signed defender Jared Kibwage from Tusker FC as a direct replacement.
