It's a race against time to make the Masters for Golf Legend Tiger Woods who has had surgery after suffering a ruptured Achilles during training at home.

The BBC reports that the 15-time major champion has not put a timescale on his recovery but his participation in the Masters, which begins on 10 April is seriously in doubt.

With less than a month to the prestigious tournament, it seems Tiger might be on the wrong side of the ball despite earlier stating his desire to compete at the Green Jacket tourney.

49-year-old Woods had been hoping to make his comeback at Augusta, having not competed in a PGA Tour event since last July but it looks unlikely now.

"As I began to ramp up my training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured," Woods is quoted by the BBC.

"This morning, Dr Charlton Stucken of the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon."

According to the report, Dr Stucken stated that the surgery "went smoothly" and he expects a full recovery for Golf's most well known character.

The critically acclaimed Woods who once dominated Golf with his swagger and swing has not participated in any PGA Tour event since last year's British Open at Royal Troon in July and had his sixth back procedure in 10 years in September.

He had planned to return at the Genesis Invitational in February but his mother Kutilda died forcing him to quit the tournament.

He is currently ranked 1210 in the world following his mostly injury enforced absences over a few years and is considered by many to be in the final stages of his storied career.
