"Preliminary investigations suggest that this was a targeted and premeditated act," said the Police.

The motive is still under investigation, but all possibilities are being explored.

The autopsy will be led by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor and is expected to offer further insight into the cause of death and support the ongoing probe.

The DCI has sent condolences to Were’s family, fellow constituents, and friends urgung for people to remain calm.

"We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation as our teams work diligently to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation," DCI added.

The agency has called on anyone with helpful information to reach out.

"We appeal to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the nearest police station or use our toll-free lines: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203)."

The DCI affirmed that it is committed to holding those responsible accountable and delivering justice to Were’s family and the nation.

The late MP was gunned down in an appalling incident on the night of April 30, 2025, at the City Mortuary roundabout, along Ngong Road.

Official reports said two men riding a motorbike had been trailing the MP before carrying out the attack.

At around 7:30 pm, one of the attackers is said to have gotten off the motorbike and shot Were at close range.

He was inside his vehicle at the time of the attack.

After the shooting, the two suspects quickly fled the scene.

The MP’s driver, who was also in the vehicle during the attack, escaped unhurt.

Were was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
