Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his official visit to the United States.

Mudavadi, who landed in the U.S. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, is engaging in a series of high-level diplomatic discussions with officials from the administration led by Donald Trump.

On Thursday, May 8, he shared insights into his meeting with Secretary Rubio, as part of Kenya’s broader efforts to bolster its relationship with Washington.

According to Mudavadi, the two leaders discussed key issues including regional peace and security, expanded trade and investment opportunities, and enhancing diplomatic cooperation between Kenya and the U.S.

"Kenya and the United States have a long-standing partnership grounded in shared values and strategic interests. In Washington, D.C., I had a high-level engagement with Senator @SecRubio, where we addressed matters of peace and stability in the region, boosting trade and investment, and reinforcing diplomatic relations," he said.

The discussion also touched on the implementation of the Kenya–U.S. Free Trade Agreement and ongoing peace initiatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"We underscored the urgency of finalizing the Free Trade Agreement between our two countries. I also updated the U.S. on the peace efforts led by the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the DRC, which involve five Heads of State," he added.

Additionally, Mudavadi disclosed that the meeting covered the Kenya-led security mission in Haiti, which aims to curb rampant gang-related violence in the Caribbean nation.

"Senator Rubio reiterated America's backing for Kenya’s regional leadership, commitment to democratic governance, and the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti. He also expressed a strong desire to visit Kenya to further deepen our strategic alliance," Mudavadi noted.

He was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, National Security Advisor Monica Juma, Ambassador David Kerich, and Deputy Ambassador Christopher Kirigua.
