Google Maps has introduced a new feature that allows users to save places directly from screenshots stored in their phone galleries.

This update is designed to help users quickly revisit locations they come across online or in conversations without the need to manually search for them again.

The feature, currently being rolled out to Android users around the world, uses image recognition technology to detect details such as addresses, landmarks, and map pins from screenshots.

When such information is identified, the app immediately offers two simple options: "Save place" or "Open in Maps."

This means users can now hold onto locations they find on social media, websites, or chat apps without copying and pasting or typing out any addresses.

With just a tap, a place seen in a screenshot can be added to a user’s saved locations on Google Maps.

The new tool runs on artificial intelligence that works directly on the device.

According to Google, this ensures faster processing and better privacy since no data leaves the phone during recognition.

"The tool is powered by on-device artificial intelligence," Google stated, adding that this setup gives users a more private and responsive experience.

By allowing users to save places effortlessly, the company aims to make Google Maps more helpful in everyday life.

"This feature is part of its broader effort to make Google Maps more intuitive and user-friendly for everyday use," Google said. The goal is to help people easily keep track of the locations that are important to them.

Many users discover interesting places while browsing or chatting, but often forget to save them or lose the links.

This feature is especially helpful for those who frequently take screenshots of places they want to visit later.

Now, instead of digging through messages or old tabs, users can simply scan their gallery and let Google Maps do the work.

Although the feature is currently only available on Android, Google has confirmed that it will be expanding to iOS devices later this year.

This will allow even more users to benefit from the time-saving and user-friendly addition.

By simplifying how locations are saved, Google Maps continues to enhance its role as a go-to navigation and discovery tool.

With the screenshot scanner, users have one more convenient way to stay organized and explore new destinations with ease.
