The National Assembly has scheduled the vetting of nominees for the positions of Chairperson and Commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for Monday, May 26, 2025.

This follows the publication of a public notice in the local dailies on May 12, 2025, by National Assembly Clerk Samwel Njoroge.

According to the notice, the approval hearings will be conducted by the relevant parliamentary committee at the Mini Chamber, located on the first floor of County Hall, within the Parliament Buildings.

The session is expected to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be held in accordance with the constitutional and statutory provisions guiding public appointments.

The vetting process is being undertaken pursuant to Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution, which emphasizes public participation in parliamentary proceedings, and Section 6(4) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Cap. 7F).

Members of the public have been invited to submit written representations on the suitability or otherwise of the nominees ahead of the scheduled hearings.

The appointments are seen as critical to restoring the full composition of the electoral commission ahead of upcoming electoral processes.

The outcome of the vetting will determine whether the nominees are formally endorsed to lead the IEBC, a body that plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Kenya’s democratic processes.
