The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has ramped up its ongoing efforts in the fight against illicit drugs, making significant strides with successful operations in Homabay and Kisii Counties.

In a coordinated effort in Oyugis, Homabay County, NACADA, in partnership with the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Administration Police Service (APS), carried out an intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of two individuals found with suspected narcotics and illegal goods.

Among the items recovered were 400 packets of Supermatch cigarettes, 14 packets of Oris cigarettes, and a large sum of cash believed to be proceeds from illegal trade.

In addition, one of the suspects was found with what is suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The smuggled contraband cigarettes appear to have bypassed customs checks, violating trade and revenue regulations.

The arrested suspects are currently in custody at Oyugis Police Station as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in Kisii County, NACADA, alongside the National Police Service (NPS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and ANU Nyanza Region, raided a rental property in Nyakongo Village, Kitutu Central Sub-county.

During the operation, authorities seized 134 brooms suspected of containing narcotic substances and two large sacks of dried plant material believed to be cannabis sativa.

Eight individuals were arrested and are now in police custody as further legal action is pursued.

These successful operations build on NACADA’s recent takedown of a major drug distribution network tied to a well-known drug lord in Kisii County, reinforcing the Authority’s ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking rings across Kenya.

NACADA remains steadfast in its multi-agency approach to combating drug abuse, collaborating with law enforcement and intelligence agencies to protect communities from the dangers of illicit substances.

The public is urged to stay alert and report any drug-related activities anonymously through the toll-free hotline 1192.
