More wet days ahead, warns weatherman

The department said several regions should brace for continued rainfall, especially areas in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, Western and North-western Kenya.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that rains will continue to affect many parts of the country through the week ending Monday, May 26.
In a detailed weekly forecast, the department said several regions should brace for continued rainfall, especially areas in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, Western and North-western Kenya.
"Rainfall will persist in parts of the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Coast, Western and North-western Kenya," the department said.
In addition to the rainfall, high daytime temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius are expected in the Coast, North-eastern, North-western and some parts of the South-eastern lowlands.
At night, some areas, particularly around the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Central Rift Valley and the Mt Kilimanjaro region may see a sharp drop in temperatures to below 10 degrees Celsius.
Nairobi will remain mostly cloudy throughout the week, with occasional sunny breaks. Temperatures are expected to range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.
In the coastal region, Mombasa is expected to experience sunshine mixed with showers, while Lamu and Malindi will also see a combination of sunny intervals and rain.
Temperatures across these towns will generally range between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius.
The forecast also shows a mix of sunshine and rain in Western and Rift Valley towns such as Kisumu, Eldoret, Kitale, Kericho and Kisii.
Temperatures in these regions will mostly range between 13 and 28 degrees Celsius.
Nakuru and Narok will enjoy sunny intervals with mild temperatures, while Nyeri and Meru will receive light rains in between sunshine.
In the North and North-eastern parts of the country, places like Lodwar, Mandera, Garissa, Wajir and Moyale are expected to remain dry and hot with sunny intervals.
Lodwar and Mandera will record some of the highest temperatures this week, peaking at 38 degrees Celsius.
Makindu, Kitui, Voi and Machakos will be partly cloudy with periods of sunshine.
These towns will experience temperatures ranging between 14 and 30 degrees Celsius.
In Kakamega, temperatures will range from 16 to 26 degrees Celsius, with a mix of rain and sunshine.
Marsabit and Moyale will remain relatively dry, with sunny intervals throughout the day.
The department continues to urge residents in rain-prone areas to remain cautious and keep monitoring weather updates throughout the week.
