In Summary

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few places on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, while light showers will continue at night through Saturday.

Kenyans are in for another week of unpredictable weather as rainfall is expected to reduce in several parts of the country, even as temperatures take a dramatic turn, rising sharply in some regions and dipping at night in others.

The Kenya Meteorological Department says the shift will affect how residents across various counties plan their week, especially those in farming and outdoor sectors.

While the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and parts of the Rift Valley will still receive some rain early in the week, the weatherman warns that the intensity and spread will decline.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few places on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, while light showers will continue at night through Saturday. However, Thursday night is expected to be partly cloudy.

The shift in rainfall is expected to slow down progress for farmers who have been relying on consistent showers over the past few weeks.

In contrast, hot and dry weather is forecast in other areas, with temperatures expected to climb above 30 degrees Celsius in much of the Coast, northeastern, and northwestern regions.

Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County will see sunny mornings throughout the week. Isolated showers are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, while the rest of the week remains dry.

Maximum daytime temperatures in these regions could reach 35 degrees, while minimum nighttime temperatures are expected to be around 12 degrees.

Meanwhile, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale will receive morning and afternoon showers through midweek, with sunny intervals expected on Friday and partly cloudy skies on Saturday.

Daytime highs in these areas will hit 34 degrees, with nights remaining warm at 23 degrees.

Residents in western counties, including Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, and Bomet, among others, should expect rain in the mornings throughout the week, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoons.

Nighttime showers are expected except on Thursday. Temperatures in this zone will range between 9 and 30 degrees Celsius.

In Turkana and Samburu, extremely hot weather will dominate the week, with maximum temperatures rising to 37 degrees.

Some relief may come on Tuesday and Wednesday when light showers are expected in the morning and evening.

Nights will be cooler, with lows of about 8 degrees.

The Central Highlands and the areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro will experience cold nights, with temperatures dropping to 10 degrees or lower.

The weatherman is advising residents, especially children, the elderly, and those with health issues, to stay warm and take precautions.

With sharp differences in weather across the country, Kenyans are urged to keep following updates from the Meteorological Department and adjust their daily plans accordingly.
