KNEC to conduct KJSEA qualifying test from June 9 to 11

The test timetable is available on KNEC’s official website, and candidates scheduled to sit the assessment have already been notified.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will administer the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) qualifying test from June 9 to 11, 2025.
The assessment targets learners entering the Kenyan education system from abroad or from alternative education systems within the country.
"A qualifying test is an assessment administered to candidates joining the Kenyan education system from other countries or other education systems in the country," KNEC said in a statement on Tuesday.
The test timetable is available on KNEC’s official website, and candidates scheduled to sit the assessment have already been notified.
After completion, candidates will receive their results and result slips immediately, signed by the Sub-County Director of Education for registration purposes.
"The candidates will be given results and result slips immediately after completion of the test, duly signed by the Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) for purposes of registration for KJSEA," adds the examination management body.
KNEC emphasised that no extra time will be allowed beyond the duration stated on the question paper. In the event of any discrepancy, the time printed on the question paper will take precedence.
"The time allowed for each paper is indicated against the paper's name, and NO EXTRA TIME IS TO BE ALLOWED. In case of any discrepancy, the time stated on the question paper should be taken as the correct one," KNEC explains.
Candidates are advised to be seated 15 minutes before the start of each test session.
"Avail yourself for searching outside the assessment room and be seated at your desk/table 15 minutes before the time fixed for the examination to start in the various papers. The first session will start at 8.30 am," advises the statement.
Any candidate arriving more than 30 minutes late will not be allowed to sit the test, except under exceptional circumstances. Communication during the exam is strictly prohibited, and possession of books, notes, or unauthorised materials will be treated as misconduct.
Mobile phones and electronic devices are banned in all examination centres.
"Cell phones or any other electronic communication device are prohibited in examination centres. Any candidate caught possessing a cell phone/any other electronic communication device will have their results cancelled," KNEC warns.
Candidates are only allowed to use mathematical tables printed by KNEC and non-programmable calculators where permitted.
KNEC warned that any irregularities or misconduct during the exam will attract penalties under the KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012, specifically Sections 27 to 40. These include cancellation of the entire subject and the award of result "Y."
The Council has urged all Sub-County Examination Officers to ensure candidates fully understand the rules and the serious consequences of non-compliance.
