Samboja returns to public office as President Ruto makes new appointments

Former Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has been appointed as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company for a three-year term.
President William Ruto has made new appointments to key state positions, including the Pyrethrum Processing Company and the National Youth Service Council, in a move seen as part of his wider plan to strengthen leadership in public institutions.
Former Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has been appointed as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company for a three-year term.
The appointment was confirmed through a gazette notice, which stated, "In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Granton Samboja to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, for a period of three (3) years."
Samboja served as the second Governor of Taita Taveta between 2017 and 2022. He was elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.
During his tenure, he faced an impeachment attempt after 30 out of 33 Members of the County Assembly voted to remove him, accusing him of gross misconduct and misappropriation of funds.
However, the Senate cleared him, and he continued in office until the end of his term. He lost his re-election bid in 2022 to Andrew Mwadime.
Since then, he returned to the media industry, where he hosts a gospel show on Anguo FM and also serves as a preacher.
In another appointment, retired Lieutenant General Adan Mulata was named Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Service Council for a three-year term.
The notice confirmed that all appointments take effect from May 23. Mulata is the Executive Chairman of the Peace Prospect Institute-Africa.
He previously served as a two-star General in the Kenya Defence Forces, overseeing military operations, doctrine, and training.
As a three-star General, he played a key role in handling strategic issues such as counter-terrorism, national election security, and multi-agency coordination.
President Ruto also appointed John Mwangi Karondo to the State Corporations Advisory Committee for a similar term, replacing Joseph Kimani Machiri, whose appointment was revoked.
