In Summary

In a notice issued on Monday, June 2, KeNHA said the disruption will affect the area near the entrance to the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) camp, directly opposite the Nairobi National Park.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced an eight-hour traffic disruption on a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass this weekend to allow for the installation of stress-strain sensors.

In a notice issued on Monday, June 2, KeNHA said the disruption will affect the area near the entrance to the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) camp, directly opposite the Nairobi National Park.

The partial closure will run from 10 pm on Saturday, June 7, to 8 am on Sunday, June 8.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass near the entrance of the CRBC Camp, opposite the Nairobi National Park, will experience a temporary traffic disruption," the notice read.

"The disruption follows the installation of stress-strain sensors on the highway pavement."

The sensors are designed to measure how the road structure reacts to different levels of pressure and weight from traffic, especially heavy commercial vehicles.

KeNHA explained that the devices provide real-time data that will help guide decisions on road maintenance, upgrades and construction standards.

According to the Authority, only one outer lane will be affected over a short 10-metre stretch, meaning both lanes of the bypass will not be closed entirely.

Motorists have been advised to drive with caution and follow directions from traffic marshals and police officers who will be on site during the closure.

In December 2024, KeNHA announced a similar disruption on the Southern Bypass to allow for repair works on bridge expansion joints and reconstruction of the concrete pavement at the Virtual Weighbridge.
