Chief Justice Koome, CSs make fresh appointments in key public agencies

The new terms take effect between July 11 and July 14, with some replacing outgoing members and others renewing terms for serving officials.
Several government agencies and public boards have received new appointments and reappointments following official notices issued by Chief Justice Martha Koome and multiple Cabinet Secretaries.
The changes, captured in a series of gazette notices dated July 8, reflect a fresh wave of leadership updates across sectors such as Judiciary, health, energy, water, transport, labour, and trade.
The new terms take effect between July 11 and July 14, with some replacing outgoing members and others renewing terms for serving officials.
In the Judiciary, Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed Dominica Nyambu and Green Odera to serve as Admiralty Marshals, with their roles beginning on July 14.
This comes after the revocation of Christine Ogweno’s appointment.
“The appointment of Christine Ogweno vide Gazette Notice No. 8450 of 2021 is revoked,” read the notice.
The Kenya School of Government received three appointments through Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku.
Linnet Mirehane was reappointed to the school’s council for another three-year term starting July 13. Leonida Chelagat Mitei and Dr Francis Owino were also appointed to serve for three years beginning July 11. Mitei joins under paragraph (f), and Owino under paragraph (h) of the appointing regulations.
In the Ministry of Health, Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed Pauline Nyokabi to the Digital Health Agency board. Her three-year term starts on July 11. Her appointment came alongside the revocation of Linda Murugi Gebson’s position.
“The appointment of Linda Murugi Gebson is revoked,” the gazette notice stated.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir extended the term of Iltasayon Neepe as a board member of the Kenya Airports Authority. The new term will run for three years beginning July 11.
In the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua reappointed Rose Auma Omamo to the Board of Trustees at the National Social Security Fund. She continues her role under the ongoing restructuring of key social welfare institutions.
The water sector saw several board changes. Regina Ndambuki was reappointed as the chairperson of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board. Geoffrey Rukuja retained his seat at the Tana Water Works Development Agency. Nasri Sahal Ibrahim was also reappointed as the chairperson of the Northern Water Works Development Agency.
In the blue economy docket, Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho appointed Ibrahim Malow Noor to the board of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. His three-year term begins on July 11.
In the energy sector, Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi appointed Carren Akinyi Olweny and Abdisalan Adow Abdi to the board of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency. Their appointments are part of ongoing efforts to guide the agency’s strategic direction.
Culture and Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo renewed the term of Edwin Abonyo as the chairperson of the National Museums of Kenya Board. His new term begins on July 13.
In the trade ministry, Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui appointed Hamza Alio Abdi to serve on the board of the Export Processing Zones Authority for a term of three years.
These appointments reflect a continued move to strengthen state institutions by combining both experienced and new individuals in leadership roles across government agencies.
