US President Donald Trump has nominated State Department spokeswoman and former Fox News host Tammy Bruce to serve as the United States Deputy Representative to the United Nations, with the rank of ambassador.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social account on Saturday, Trump lauded Bruce’s performance since joining his administration in January at the start of his second term.

“Tammy has been serving with distinction as Spokesperson of the State Department, where she did a fantastic job,” he wrote. He described her as a “Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author” who would represent the United States “brilliantly” at the UN.

Bruce, a conservative commentator for more than two decades on Fox News, has built a reputation for her sharp criticism of liberal politics. She has authored several books, including Fear Itself: Exposing the Left’s Mind-Killing Agenda, and has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s policies.

Since assuming her government role, she has defended a range of controversial decisions from the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration to the deployment of private military contractors to deliver humanitarian aid in Gaza.

If confirmed by the Senate, Bruce will step into a high-profile diplomatic position at a time when the United States faces mounting global challenges, including escalating tensions in Eastern Europe, ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and growing competition with China.

Trump’s choice reflects his preference for loyalists with strong public communication skills and a willingness to vigorously defend his administration’s agenda. Her nomination comes as the president’s pick for U.S. ambassador to the UN, Congressman Mike Waltz, also awaits Senate confirmation.

Currently, the post is held on an acting basis by Dorothy Shea, a career diplomat who served as deputy ambassador in 2024.

It remains unclear when Bruce would assume her duties if approved, but the move underscores Trump’s efforts to shape his foreign policy team with trusted allies as he enters the second year of his second term.
