Kenya and the US State of Nebraska have entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding opportunities for Kenyans abroad.

The agreement was signed at State House in Nairobi on Tuesday by Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, and Nebraska Secretary of State, Robert Evnen.

President William Ruto, who witnessed the signing, said the MoU will deepen ties at both national and sub-national levels, with a focus on diaspora engagement, education, skills training, and technology transfer.

“Our partnership with Nebraska will open new doors in student training, skills development, sustainable agriculture, and tourism,” President Ruto said.

The Head of State highlighted Nebraska’s strong record in agriculture and education as areas where Kenya seeks to build collaboration, alongside cooperation in labour exchange and innovation.

He also underscored shared democratic values and existing security cooperation, including counter-terrorism and defence.

Dr Ruto said the agreement reflects Kenya’s broader strategy of forging global partnerships to accelerate development and strengthen people-to-people ties.

“This arrangement marks a significant step in expanding opportunities for Kenyans abroad while deepening collaboration with the United States,” he added.
