KFS looking into alleged python sighting in Karura Forest

A video widely circulated online showed what appeared to be a massive python slithering across a murram road within the forest before disappearing into the undergrowth.
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has addressed public concerns after reports of a python sighting in Nairobi’s Karura Forest went viral this week.
A video widely circulated online showed what appeared to be a massive python slithering across a murram road within the forest before disappearing into the undergrowth.
KFS said in a statement on Thursday that while pythons have been seen in the forest before, the alleged sighting of the python remains unconfirmed.
"Kenya Forest Service notes that although pythons have been sighted within Karura in the past years, namely in 2019 and in 2022, the current sighting and the photo in circulation are yet to be authenticated, "read the statement.
The Service, however, advised the public to remain vigilant, saying they cannot refute whether the sighting occurred or not.
It added that investigations are underway to establish the facts behind the alleged sighting.
The agency issued safety guidelines to the visitors to strictly walk and jog along the designated paths and tracks only, and ensure that their pets are leashed and kept within authorised areas of the forest.
"In case of any sighting, the matter should be reported immediately to KFS Forest Rangers located at the various gates," KFS advised.
