Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo, has dismissed an arrest directive issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), describing the charges against him as false, politically driven, and aimed at undermining his leadership.

On Friday, the ODPP instructed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to apprehend Governor Guyo and seven others over allegations of kidnapping with intent to cause harm and robbery with violence.

According to the DPP’s statement, the decision followed a review of an inquiry file forwarded by the DCI Kiyumbi office to the ODPP Machakos County and later escalated to the Nairobi headquarters because of what it termed public interest.

The ODPP detailed that the case arose from an incident where former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, Abdirahaman Mohamed, together with 15 Members of the County Assembly aligned to the impeachment bid against the Governor, were present at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County, on the day in question.

In a swift response, Governor Guyo strongly rejected the accusations, insisting they were part of a calculated attempt to intimidate him and smear his record in public service.
“These allegations are baseless, politically motivated, and clearly intended to intimidate and silence us,” he said.

The Governor emphasized his clean record, stating that he has never been associated with crime.
“I firmly state that throughout my life, both before and during my time in politics, I have never been arrested nor associated with any criminal activity,” Guyo said, adding that he has always upheld dignity, respect for the law, and service to the people.

Guyo further recalled that on August 27, the Kiambu Law Courts issued an anticipatory order barring the ODPP and DCI from arresting or harassing him or his associates until the matter is heard and determined.

He urged his supporters not to be swayed by the latest developments.
“I therefore call upon my supporters and the people of Isiolo to remain calm and steadfast,” he appealed.

While maintaining his commitment to his duties, Guyo vowed not to be derailed by what he termed a smear campaign.
“I remain fully committed to discharging my mandate as your Governor, upholding justice and truth, and safeguarding the will of the people. No smear campaign will derail our collective progress,” he stated.
