Jaguar Land Rover has prolonged its production halt to October 1 after a cyberattack crippled its manufacturing and retail systems.

The carmaker said it is working with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement to restore operations. The shutdown has disrupted vehicle output, sales, and supply chains

The company confirmed the development in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

“Our teams continue to work around the clock alongside cybersecurity specialists, the NCSC and law enforcement to ensure we restart in a safe and secure manner,” Jaguar Land Rover said.

The attack targeted both retail and production operations, making it impossible for the company to resume manufacturing immediately.

As the situation unfolded, dealers, suppliers, and workers have faced uncertainty over the timeline for normal operations to resume. The halt affects several of the company’s key plants in the U.K. and overseas, disrupting the output of some of its most popular vehicles, including premium SUVs and electric models.

This incident forms part of wider ransomware attacks worldwide, where most European airports experienced delays and cancellations due to disruptions by similar attacks.

For Jaguar Land Rover, the latest crisis comes at a time when the automotive sector is already grappling with supply chain bottlenecks, rising energy costs, and evolving demand for electric vehicles.

The cyberattack adds another layer of pressure, particularly as the company works to protect its position as a leader in the premium automotive market.

The suspension until October 1 suggests that recovery efforts are extensive and that the company is prioritizing security over speed.

They highlight that they are committed to ensuring that when production resumes, their systems will be fully secured against further attacks.

The incident also highlights the growing need for companies to bolster cybersecurity defenses in an era of heightened digital threats.

Despite the challenges, Jaguar Land Rover has reassured stakeholders that it is working closely with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and law enforcement to resolve the matter. The company has framed the crisis as a learning moment to strengthen resilience against any future attack.

With production now scheduled to resume no earlier than October 1, attention is firmly on how quickly JLR can recover and what measures it will implement to shield itself from similar incidents in the future.
