The victims, employed at a local quarry, were brutally targeted in what local officials have described as a "devastating security breach."

Five quarry workers, all non-local, were killed early Tuesday morning in what is suspected to be an Al-Shabaab terrorist attack in Bur Abor village, Mandera East.

The attack occurred around 7 am, with initial reports and eyewitness accounts suggesting that Al-Shabaab militants were responsible for the killings.

The victims, employed at a local quarry, were brutally targeted in what local officials have described as a "devastating security breach."

The incident has sparked fear and unease among the villagers, prompting security agencies to rush to the scene to conduct further investigations.

"The identities of the victims are currently being verified," stated Mohamed Abdiaziz Roble, the Village Administrator of Bur Abor, during a press briefing.

"Efforts are underway to notify their families and home communities."

Security forces were quickly deployed following the attack, and investigations are currently underway to uncover the full details and motives behind the incident.

While no group has officially claimed responsibility, authorities strongly suspect the involvement of the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab group, known for carrying out similar attacks in the area.

In response, the village administration, together with local law enforcement, has implemented enhanced security protocols to safeguard both residents and visitors.

Roble also encouraged community members to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

"This is a deeply concerning event. We are working closely with security teams to bring justice and restore a sense of security," Roble stated.
