The FBI has launched further investigations into the assassination of Charles Kirk, a prominent 31-year-old conservative activist who was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.

The shooting was caught on video, showing a single round fired from a rooftop, hitting Kirk in the neck.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency's involvement.

The FBI is working alongside state and local authorities to find the shooter, who remains at large.

"The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement," Patel wrote, "Our investigation continues, and we will continue to release information in the interest of transparency.

The shooting has been described by Governor Spencer Cox as a "political assassination".

While two people were initially detained in the chaotic aftermath of the shooting, both have been cleared of any connection to the crime and released. One individual was charged with obstruction, but not murder.

The FBI has deployed its full resources to the investigation, including tactical, operational, investigative, and intelligence teams, as the search for the shooter intensifies.
