In Summary

The official state visit is scheduled for September 17 to 19, with the royal couple expected to host the Trumps at Windsor Castle.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will travel to the United Kingdom this fall at the invitation of King Charles III.

The official state visit is scheduled for September 17 to 19, with the royal couple expected to host the Trumps at Windsor Castle.

While full details of the visit remain under wraps, Trump is not expected to address the UK Parliament unlike French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke before British lawmakers last week as Parliament will be out of session from mid-September through mid-October due to party conferences, according to Sky News.

This marks Trump's second royal visit. His first came in 2019, when he and Melania were received by the late Queen Elizabeth II. That trip drew widespread demonstrations, and London Mayor Sadiq Khan delivered a strongly worded video message criticizing the U.S. leader ahead of his arrival.

News of Trump’s upcoming visit comes against a backdrop of renewed diplomatic controversy.

The president recently stirred international concern by suggesting Canada where King Charles also serves as head of state could be annexed as the 51st state of the U.S. The remark followed a May speech by King Charles before Canada’s Parliament, in which he underscored the nation’s commitment to democratic principles.

“Canada is once again at a pivotal juncture,” the monarch said. “It's people remain firmly committed to democracy; pluralism, self-determination, and the rule of law values the government is determined to uphold.”

Meanwhile, Trump continues to pursue an aggressive trade policy, having imposed tariffs on several global partners.

Despite hailing a recent agreement with the UK as a “maxed out deal” that could set the tone for future trade accords, the pact notably retains a 10% base tariff, signaling persistent friction on economic fronts
