Police announce road closures, diversions ahead of Sunday CHAN matches

Motorists from Mombasa Road heading to the City Centre are advised to use Likoni Road through Enterprise Road near General Motors or the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni.
If you are heading to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi to watch the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) match between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Zambia’s Chipolopolo today, brace yourself for temporary road closures and diversions.
The National Police Service (NPS) announced that Aerodrome Road will be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout, while one lane of Lang’ata Road between Madaraka and Lusaka Roundabouts and one lane of Mombasa Road between Lusaka and Bunyala Roundabouts will also be closed.
To ease congestion, motorists from Mombasa Road heading to the City Centre are advised to use Likoni Road through Enterprise Road near General Motors or the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni.
NPS states that those using Lang’ata Road should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road through Mbagathi Roundabout.
Traffic along Thika Superhighway will also be affected. Vehicles from the city centre heading to Thika Road will be diverted to Kiambu Road at Exit 4, with a roadblock mounted at Muthaiga.
Motorists heading to Mwiki will be diverted through Ruaka, Baba Ndogo, Lucky Summer, Nairobi River and into Mwiki, while those from Thika, Juja and Ruiru heading to Nairobi are advised to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road.
Vehicles from Githurai to the CBD should use Githurai 44 through Kiambu Road.
Fans heading to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, without vehicle access passes will be required to use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
The NPS said additional officers have been deployed to manage traffic and warned that stern action will be taken against motorists flouting traffic rules.
“The police urged road users to cooperate with officers on the ground to ensure smooth movement during the tournament,” said NPS.
The match between Kenya and Zambia kicks off at 3 pm.
