All five suspects are in custody as the investigation continues, with both the bus and the confiscated explosives held as evidence.

A routine patrol by a multi-agency security team along the Kanyonyoo–Embu Highway took a dramatic turn when officers intercepted a passenger bus headed for Meru from Mombasa and uncovered a stash of explosives.

During a thorough inspection, security personnel found a suspicious white carton marked with LATO Milk branding.

On closer examination, the package was found to contain a cache of explosives: ten water gel devices labeled EXPLOGEL V6, a detonating cord, and two IDEAL Electric Detonators.

"The bus was promptly directed to Kanyonyo Police Station, where both the driver, Lawrance Kioko Mutuku, and the conductor, Said Rashid Amour, were arrested for further questioning," said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

"Following forensic leads, detectives from the Anti-Terrorist Police Unit (ATPU) and the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) tracked down the primary suspect, Rashid Amour, who was apprehended in Mundutsu village, Kakamega County."

Brenda, who had registered the package, falsely labeled the explosives as "Dawa ya Maji" at the Tahmeed office in Kakamega.

She coordinated the package's journey, which traveled from Kakamega to Mombasa before being transferred to a Meru-bound bus via Kitui.

The investigation expanded, resulting in the capture of two more individuals, David Tindi Andala and John Kariuki Kung’u, in Meru town.

All five suspects are in custody as the investigations continue, with both the bus and the confiscated explosives held as evidence.
