A tragic accident at a fishing tournament in Alabama has left three people dead, sending shockwaves through the local community and the broader fishing world.

The incident occurred during an annual bass fishing competition held at Lake Martin, a popular spot for anglers from across the region.

According to authorities, a high-speed boat collision took place early Thursday morning, shortly after the tournament had officially begun.

Witnesses say two boats collided near a narrow bend in the lake where visibility is often limited. One of the boats capsized from the impact, throwing its occupants into the water.

Emergency responders were called to the scene immediately, but despite rescue efforts, three individuals were pronounced dead.

Two others sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The Alabama Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation, and while the exact cause of the crash is still under review, initial reports suggest poor visibility and high speeds may have been contributing factors.

Officials have not yet released the names of the deceased, pending notification of their families.

Tournament organizers expressed their grief in a statement, calling the event a "heartbreaking day" and offering condolences to the victims' loved ones. Safety has always been our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation," the statement read.

The remainder of the tournament has been canceled as the community mourns the tragic loss.
