Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of a teacher at Alliance Girls High School accused of grooming and sexually exploiting students.

Addressing a Thanksgiving ceremony at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County on Thursday, PS Bitok confirmed that the Ministry of Education has engaged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and law enforcement to take urgent action against the teacher in question.

PS Bitok emphasised that the Ministry of Education had already engaged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to initiate Ayiro’s interdiction and stressed that the crackdown on such conduct would extend across the country.

"We are not going to condone any behaviour where teachers or any other stakeholders in schools take advantage of our children. We want to condemn with the strongest terms possible those behaviours of teachers or any characters or staff within the school community who want to take advantage of our children sexually," he said.

"That teacher is going to be punished, is going to be interdicted, we have talked to TSC and all the other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested and it's not only Alliance, any other school in the country, that behaviour must stop," he added.

The accusations against Ayiro were brought to light through a detailed exposé by African Uncensored, titled The Teacher and the System - The Story Behind the Story. The investigation spanned four years and revealed troubling accounts of grooming behaviour, including granting special privileges to certain students, frequent private meetings, overly emotional communication, and inappropriate physical contact.

The report paints a picture of a man who carefully manipulated his position to gain the trust and emotional attachment of students. His actions blurred professional lines, making it difficult for victims to speak out or even recognise the abuse for what it was.

Ayiro, who had served at the school for over two decades, held various influential roles beyond teaching. He was the patron of the drama club and the longtime Christian Union leader, roles that deepened his influence and allowed him to operate with little scrutiny.

His reputation as a devout Christian and his connection to strong evangelical networks outside the school added to his authority, shielding him from suspicion. For many students, he was not just a teacher, but a spiritual guide and mentor.

However, the exposé has now triggered a wave of reactions.

Former students have come forward on social media, some confirming the disturbing details, others expressing confusion and disbelief. Among them is career coach and Alliance Girls alumna Joan Nyambura Thuo, who expressed deep emotional turmoil after learning about the teacher’s alleged actions.

"Obviously, I was so happy to see Mr Ayiro; he was someone I respected and held in very high regard. He started morning devotion when I was in high school, which was formative for my Christian journey. I'll probably need counselling to unpack this sea of emotions after the recent exposé on him. Disappointment, disgust, anger, shock, and confusion. What I fail to understand is - how did this go on for this long? His conscience was never troubled? I also never quite understood why he stayed at AGHS for over 20 years - he had the capacity to do much more," she said.

In a deeply personal and emotional reflection, Joan questioned Ayiro’s character, calling him manipulative and predatory.

"I needed to get out my DSM-5 because I need to understand, is it a case of Ephebophilia? Is he a psychopath? Or is he just a horrible human being? Was he even a believer? Like, what are we dealing with here? I'm sure there were age-appropriate girls at his church & social circles from 20 years ago - why target teenagers? Why risk your legacy?

"Obviously, Mr Ayiro is a genius. He married an old girl, got a house in Lang'ata, kept his bachelor pad at Alliance Girls, waited for the girls to finish high school, then it was finally time to harvest," she said.

She also highlighted what she described as a clear pattern in Ayiro’s behaviour: "The petite, pretty, vulnerable, CU girls. You also needed to be an A student - he wasn't messing with B students. When your CU patron sexually grooms you for years, waits for you to finish high school, munches you, then discards you, si you'll just become an atheist," she added.

As the story continues to unfold, pressure is mounting on authorities to act. On Thursday, a group of women staged a protest outside Alliance Girls High School, demanding Ayiro’s arrest and justice for affected students.

The accused teacher is reportedly in hiding as investigations continue.
