In Summary

Dr Samier Muravvej has been appointed as the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service Board for a three-year term, effective from September 5, 2025.

President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have carried out major changes in the leadership of parastatal boards and public institutions, signaling a broader effort to strengthen governance and align institutions with national development goals.

The changes were formalized in a series of notices published in the Gazette on September 5, 2025.

Dr Samier Muravvej has been appointed as the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service Board for a three-year term, effective from September 5, 2025.

The appointment places him at the forefront of implementing the country’s blue economy policy and managing the fisheries sector.

Muravvej had previously served as board chair at Kenyatta National Hospital, a position that was revoked on the same day he took up his new role.

This followed his earlier tenure as non-executive Chairperson of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council, which was also revoked under the State Corporations Act and the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council Order.

In the sports sector, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports CS Salim Mvurya revoked the appointment of Billy Komintai Konchellah as a Member of the Board of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), effective August 29, 2025.

However, Gender CS Hanna Cheptumo appointed him to the National Heroes Council for a three-year term starting September 5, 2025.

Education CS Julius Ogamba oversaw multiple appointments and reshuffles within university councils. Rosebella Namango joined the Council of Kenyatta University, replacing Alice Waruguru Muita and Ibrahim Abdi Mude, whose appointments were revoked. Waruguru Muita moved to Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, while Mude was appointed to Machakos University Council.

Amos Okello, previously at Egerton University, was assigned to Bomet University College. Razoah Vitisia was moved from the University of Eldoret Council to Tom Mboya University, while Nashon Edward Oluoch Nyona was reappointed to Taita Taveta University. Issa Mohamed Ahmed joined Tharaka University Council.

All university appointments are for three years, effective September 5, 2025.

In the health sector, CS Aden Duale appointed Boniface Yego as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Public Health Institute under the Kenya National Public Health Institute Order, 2022. His three-year term also begins on September 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, Lands and Housing CS Alice Wahome launched an Adjudication Programme for the Korosi Community in Tiaty, Baringo County. The initiative aims to survey and demarcate land for registration as community land, supporting pastoralist livelihoods.

In mining, CS Hassan Joho announced the receipt of a prospecting licence application from Nakuru Mining Company Limited for limestone in Kajiado County, covering 2.14 km².

The application is open for public comment for 21 days via the Ministry's online cadastre portal. Joho also confirmed the creation of a Community Development Agreement Committee for the Kakori Community in Tiaty Sub-County, Baringo, in partnership with Chuanshan International Mining Company Limited.

The committee includes representatives from the community, the national government, and the mining company to ensure fair benefit-sharing.

These appointments and initiatives reflect the administration’s ongoing efforts to restructure key sectors, improve efficiency, and strengthen governance, while aligning institutions with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
