Elachi decried what she referred to as the prevailing "spirit of social media," which she said has not only deeply influenced the youth but also appears to be steering the direction of the nation.

During the National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park on May 28, 2025, Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi, affectionately known as Mama Boys by her constituents, offered a heartfelt and earnest prayer after being assigned to intercede for the youth and their relationship with social media.

In her impassioned prayer, Elachi decried what she referred to as the prevailing "spirit of social media," which she said has not only deeply influenced the youth but also appears to be steering the direction of the nation.

She called upon God to break its hold and set young people free from its sway.

"And Father, we pray that this social media that has decided to run our country, my Father, that spirit my Father in heaven, we want to confess as legislators that indeed we must sort it out. And may we stand for what is good and the future of our country," Elachi prayed

Elachi didn’t end her prayer there.

She went on to lament the moral decline she sees taking root among the youth, pointing to issues like pornography and gambling as major concerns.

The Dagoretti North MP also placed responsibility on the shoulders of the older generation and national leaders, accusing them of abandoning the youth to these vices.

She criticized lawmakers for falling short in crafting and implementing laws that would shield young people from such harmful influences.

"We have abandoned our young people to the traps of gambling and pornography. It is our responsibility to amend the laws," Elachi declared.

She further admitted that many parents, too, have fallen short in their duty to raise well-grounded children.

Praying on behalf of parents, Elachi sought divine forgiveness for those who, in giving their children unchecked freedom, have unknowingly encouraged defiance. She cited a biblical principle highlighting the importance of discipline in parenting.

"We became parents who lacked the strength to guide. We thought it best to let our children be as they wished. Now, they’ve turned away—and we weep as parents. Father, forgive us," she prayed.

"Your Word reminds us to discipline our children, that they may see Your glory and learn to walk in order."

This statement comes amid Elachi’s ongoing vocal advocacy for stricter social media regulation—a position that has sparked debate and drawn criticism from many Kenyans.

Her comments at the prayer breakfast reflected views she has shared before in multiple public platforms.

The National Prayer Breakfast took place at Safari Park, drawing numerous leaders, including the president, and was hosted by the Speaker of the National Assembly alongside his Senate counterpart.
