Ruto officiates the launch of the human-wildlife conflict compensation fund

The President emphasized efforts to streamline compensation processes to restore dignity and deliver justice to communities on the frontline of conservation efforts.
President William Ruto officiated the launch of Sh950 million in compensation payments for victims affected by human-wildlife conflict.
The ceremony took place at Meru National Park on May 26, 2025.
The President emphasized efforts to streamline compensation processes to restore dignity and deliver justice to communities on the frontline of conservation efforts.
He stated, "We are allocating adequate resources to clear pending claims, using technology to address inefficiencies, and activating the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund—a sustainable financing mechanism supported by innovative funding approaches."
Ruto explained that in the past two years, the government has paid the victims of human-wildlife conflict Sh2.8 billion. But for nearly 10 years between 2013 and 2022, only Sh2.7 billion was paid.
"We want to ensure Kenyans are paid within the shortest time possible. This is why we have migrated the scheme from a manual to a digital platform," he said.
President Ruto made the remarks during the launch of Sh950 million third phase compensation payments for this financial year at Meru National Park.
The event was attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, and other senior officials.
