"My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected. To the injured, I wish you a quick recovery. To the families waiting and praying, we are with you. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and we remain hopeful," said the Governor.

Gold mining in West Pokot County, Kenya, is a significant economic activity, particularly in areas like Alale, Turkwel, and Kampi Karaya.

While the region holds valuable mineral resources, the mining sector faces challenges related to safety, legality, and environmental sustainability.
